The long-standing common chromium(VI) yellow chromate conversion coating is not allowed in Germany any more, not even for commercial users. This is why TIFOO has developped an alternative based on the much less problematic chromium(III). Yellow chromate passivated parts are aesthetic, non-corrosive and essential for all those who work with, for example, vintage cars. The Tifoo yellow passivation creates a shade that is very similar to a chrome(VI) chromate conversion coating. This shade resembles brass - like the old chromate conversion. Also the iridescence effect of the yellow layer is present.
The chromate conversion of zinc and zinc workpieces is done simply by dipping the object into the yellow chromate conversion.
Without further tools, you will create a yellow passivation layer within a few minutes. During the passivation, some of the zinc will be removed, or better said, dissolved, so please guarantee that the zinc layer is thick enough (>= 2 µm). This is especially valid if you zinc-plated your workpieces yourself with our TIFOO zinc plating solution. You can cancel this process by taking the workpiece out of the bath and rinsing with distilled water. Should the effect be too weak, just put the workpiece again into the bath until the desired shade is achieved. You can obtain shades from weak bright yellow until golden yellow.
