This is why TIFOO has developped an alternative based on the much less problematic chromium(III). Yellow chromate passivated parts are aesthetic, non-corrosive and essential for all those who work with, for example, vintage cars. The Tifoo yellow passivation creates a shade that is very similar to a chrome(VI) chromate conversion coating. This shade resembles brass - like the old chromate conversion. Also the iridescence effect of the yellow layer is present. The chromate conversion of zinc and zinc workpieces is done simply by dipping the object into the yellow chromate conversion. Without further tools, you will create a yellow passivation layer within a few minutes. During the passivation, some of the zinc will be removed, or better said, dissolved, so please guarantee that the zinc layer is thick enough (>= 2 µm). This is especially valid if you zinc-plated your workpieces yourself with our TIFOO zinc plating solution. You can cancel this process by taking the workpiece out of the bath and rinsing with distilled water. Should the effect be too weak, just put the workpiece again into the bath until the desired shade is achieved. You can obtain shades from weak bright yellow until golden yellow. Until today, palladium-plating is a quite rarely used electroplating method. In its function as substitution for galvanic nickel-plating, it can offer some advantages (despite the higher price). So, what are its advantages? Normally, a nickel electrolyte is used to create a barrier layer made of nickel between copper and gold to prevent the two metals from mixing together. The advantages are the following: Palladium is more noble than nickel, that means that there is no corrosion on the surface and the palladium doesn't need to be gilded nor activated like nickel. The deposition speed and the effectiveness are excellent, i.e. there is no unwanted gas formation. This electrolyte deposits silver white, very bright palladium and can be used as a bright "finish". When gilding on it with Tifoo Gold electrolyte and pen plating, you will achieve a perfect result. Unlike the nickel electrolyte, palladium isn't cancerogenic and because of that authorised for private costumers! It is essential when repairing or replacing of antique furniture is needed. Furthermore, it gives new brass, copper or bronze hardware and art pieces an antique look. It is ready to use and no mixing is needed. The solution is reusable for multiple applications. Contact of the ageing solution with the blank and cleaned copper, brass or bronze surfaces immediately forms (dependent on the duration of exposure; see the pictures!) a colored antique paint effect. As soon as the desired effect is achieved, the patination process can be easily stopped by rinsing of the object with water. The patination solution does not have to be heated.
